Frommer's Review of Five Palms Restaurant:
This is the best
lunch spot in Kihei -- open-air, with tables
a few feet from the beach and
up-close-and-personal views of Kahoolawe and
Molokini. You'll have to walk through a
nondescript parking area and the modest
entrance of the Mana Kai Resort to reach
this unpretentious place. They feature a
menu of breakfast and lunch items served
from 8am to 2:30pm, so if you're jetlagged
and your stomach isn't on Hawaiian time, you
can get a snow-crab omelet at two in the
afternoon or a juicy Angus beef hamburger at
eight in the morning. At dinner, with the
torches lit on the beach and the main dining
room open, the ambience shifts to evening
romantic but still casual. Just-caught fish
is the star of the dinner menu.
Review from MyTravelGuide.com:
This romantic,
open-air restaurant provides a panoramic
view of the world-famous Wailea coastline.
Come for the Early Bird Special (5pm-6pm) ,
and catch a glorious Maui sunset. The
special comes with an entree, salad,
potatoes and Molokai Sweet Potato
Cheesecake. For a splurge, the Puhelu Rack
of Lamb is highly recommended. The perfect
accompaniment is the Markham Merlot. Take
your time—the service is friendly and
relaxed, and the ambience is idyllic.
Traveler Review from TripAdvisor.com:
Not sure what
restaurant a previous reviewer ate at but
this was far and away the best breakfast we
had while on this most recent 8 day trip to
Maui. I am a very well-travelled and (dare I
say it) relatively refined connoisseur of
fine dining and the Five Palms was first
class from start to finish. The view from
their dining room is breathtaking... A
perfect crescent shaped and
palm-tree-studded beach was but a few yards
away from our window seat. The service was
friendly, proficient and professional. I had
the hawaiian sweet-bread french toast and it
was the honest to god the best I've ever
had. My girlfriend had the eggs benedict
which featured the lightest, fluffiest,
freshest eggs I've ever tasted. The Canadian
bacon, english muffin and hollandaise sauce
were likewise perfect. We also ordered their
baked banana pancake which arrived looking
more like a gorgeous, golden brown banana
"cake" than anything else. It was dense,
lightly sweet and delectable. It was so
filling that we were only able to enjoy a
narrow slice each before packing the rest of
the cake for our afternoon drive to Hana
picnic provisions. Do yourself a favor and
make sure you make it in here at least once
for breakfast or lunch.
Traveler Review from TripAdvisor.com:
This is my favorite
restaurant in Maui. I was introduced to it
by a real estate broker when I was looking
for a condo to purchase in Maui. He said it
was one of the best kept secrets!
I go there every time I'm in Maui (every
year since 2000)--the interior is old
Hawaii--huge windows without glass--open
shutters that let in the ocean breeze. The
beach is beautiful and you can see it from
the dining room.
Food is very good. I have also eaten at
Mama's Fish House and Five Palms is about
half as expensive but has the same wonderful
atmosphere. I'll be in Maui in November and
intend to go there again!
